Ducati Monster reminiscent of Ayrton Senna

Ducati is commemorating the Brazilian racing driver and multiple Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna with a collector's edition of the Monster, limited to 341 units. Three is the number of world championship titles he won and 41 the number of race victories. Senna died 30 years ago in a racing accident.

Thanks to special equipment components, the Monster "Senna Special Edition" is four kilograms lighter than the standard version and has a special color scheme. The paintwork is inspired by the helmet design that the driver wore in races throughout his career. It picks up on elements in yellow, green and blue and is a clear homage to the Brazilian flag. The black rims are also decorated with corresponding markings. There are also yellow brake callipers and yellow stripes on the carbon silencers. Other special features include the special seat, the front fairing and an exclusive display animation when starting. There is also a badge on the handlebars with the model name and serial number of the motorcycle as well as a certificate of authenticity and a special bike cover.

The choice of the Monster as the model for this limited edition is also linked to the story of Ayrton, who was one of the very first owners of the Monster 900. He rode it around Monte Carlo and appeared at the gala evening of the 1993 Monaco Grand Prix. The connection between the racing driver and the brand had been established three years earlier when Claudio Castiglioni, then owner of Ducati and a passionate fan of Senna, gave him an 851 SP. And when the Brazilian saw the new Ducati 916 in person, he was fascinated and the idea for a 916 Senna was born. It was to be given a livery designed by the Formula 1 driver. Senna chose a graphic between anthracite gray, matt black and red, which became established at Ducati in the following years. The special series, limited to just 300 units, was announced in March 1994. A few months before the planned start of production, Ayrton Senna died in an accident. After discussions with his family, the project was nevertheless continued. The first series was sold out in a very short time, followed by two more in 1997 and 1998 in colors chosen by Ayrton's brother Leonardo Senna.

The collaboration with Senna Brands continued in 2014 with the 1199 Panigale, on the basis of which a limited series of 161 units - the number corresponds to the number of Grand Prix ridden by the racing driver - was reserved for the Brazilian market.

The Ducati Monster Senna Special Edition costs 25,000 euros. (aum)
