Porsche takes the 911 to the next level

Porsche launches the enhanced 911 Carrera on the market in late summer. From the end of the year, it will also be available as a GTS with a displacement of 3.6 liters and performance hybrid drive, which accelerates the coupé from 0 to 100 km/h in three seconds. The top speed is 312 km/h.

The T-Hybrid drivetrain includes a permanently excited synchronous machine integrated into the new, reinforced eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It supports the boxer engine from idling speed with a drive torque of up to 150 Newton meters and also provides up to 40 kW (54 hp). Another electric motor in the exhaust gas turbocharger also works as a generator, producing up to 11 kW (15 hp) of power.

Even without electric assistance, the boxer engine produces 485 hp (357 kW) and 570 Nm. At its peak, the system output is 541 hp (398 kW) and 610 Nm. That is 61 hp (45 kW) more than the predecessor model with around 50 kilos more weight. The chassis has also been extensively revised. For example, rear-axle steering is now part of the standard equipment for the first time.

The 911 Carrera continues to be powered by a 3.0-liter boxer engine with biturbo charging. This engine was also extensively revised. Among other things, it received the intercooler from the Turbo models, which now sits above the engine directly under the boot lid grille. The turbochargers in the new 911 Carrera were reserved for the GTS models in the predecessor model. With these modifications, Porsche achieves a reduction in emissions as well as an increase in power to 394 hp (290 kW) and up to 450 Nm of torque. The Coupé sprints to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with Sport Chrono Package) and reaches a top speed of 294 km/h.

Refinements to the bodywork improve the aerodynamics and performance of the sports car. These include new, model-specific front panels. In addition, Porsche integrates all lighting functions into the Matrix LED main headlights of the 911 with their characteristic four-point look as standard for the first time. This allows the front lights to be omitted and creates space in the front section for larger cooling air openings.

In the 911 Carrera GTS models, the front section has five vertically arranged active cooling air flaps visible from the outside and a further non-visible flap on each side. They are supplemented by the adaptive front diffusers in the underbody paneling, used for the first time in the 911, which are controlled together with the cooling air flaps. These elements direct the airflow as required: when power demand is low, closed flaps optimize aerodynamics. When the power requirement is high, for example on the racetrack, the flaps direct large volumes of air to the radiators. The sensors for the assistance systems are now located behind a high-gloss surface below the license plate.

As an option, Porsche offers the new main headlights with an HD matrix LED function with more than 32,000 light points. The high-performance high beam illuminates the road for more than 600 meters. It also offers innovative additional functions such as driving mode-dependent bend lighting, lane illumination, roadworks and bottleneck lighting as well as pixel-precise, glare-free high beam.

The rear is characterized by the redesigned light strip with "Porsche" lettering and the equally redesigned grille with five slats on each side, which combines with the rear window to form a graphic unit that merges into the extendable spoiler below. An optional aerokit further enhances the performance of the 911 Coupé. It includes an independent front spoiler, matching side sill panels and a weight-reduced fixed rear wing.

Porsche has designed the interior of the new Coupé as a two-seater as standard. A 2+2 seat configuration is available as an option at no extra charge. For the first time, the 911 has a fully digital 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster. It offers up to seven views, including a classic display based on the historic 5-tube design with a central rev counter.

The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is still operated via the high-resolution central display with a 10.9-inch diagonal. The customizability of the driving modes and the operation of the driver assistance systems have been optimized. The updated 911 also features new connectivity functions.

The 911 Carrera is now available to order as a Coupé and Cabriolet with rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive and the Targa body variant (exclusively with all-wheel drive) are also available for the GTS. The Coupé is available at prices from 128,700 euros, the GTS from 170,600 euros. (aum)
