20 hp more for the forefather of all compact sports cars
At Volkswagen, the GTI and the GTI Clubsport are now also completing the generation change from Golf 8 to Golf 8.1. Both compact sports cars have independently designed front bumpers, roof edge spoilers and wheels. The power output of the GTI has been increased by 20 PS to 265 PS (195 kW). This enables it to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The 2.0-liter engine develops a maximum torque of 370 Newton meters. The Clubsport delivers a further 35 hp (221 kW / 300 hp) and 30 Nm more and achieves the standard sprint in 5.6 seconds. Both variants have a top speed of 250 km/h, with the Clubsport reaching 267 km/h with the optional "Race Package".
The new model generation will make its debut this weekend at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring. A VW GTI Clubsport "24h" with 348 hp (256 kW) will also be racing there. To mark the market launch of the first Golf in 1974, it was given the starting number 50. It is driven by Benny Leuchter (D) and Johan Kristoffersson (S), refueled with the newly developed E20 fuel from Shell, which has twice the bioethanol content of Super E10.
An LED crossbar in the radiator grille comes as standard on both sporty series models with the model year change; the red line typical of the Golf GTI runs above the crossbar - a GTI feature that goes back to the radiator grille surround of the first Golf GTI from 1976. The VW badge in the front section is also illuminated for the first time. The latest infotainment level and the Digital Cockpit Pro are also moving into the interior. Of course, sports seats with the iconic GTI check pattern are also included. The suspension with electronically controlled front axle differential lock and progressive steering have been further refined. (aum)
