A DS like a fortress
Based on the DS 7 E-Tense 4x4 300, DS Automobiles is building an armored version in accordance with protection class VPAM 4. The DS 7 Vauban protects its occupants from attacks with small arms thanks to the use of aramid, HPPE fibers (High Performance Polyethylene), armored steel and safety glass, among other things. Compared to the standard version, the Vauban weighs just 164 kilograms more. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and costs around 165,000 euros. Maintenance is carried out by certified DS Stores.
Options such as an automatic fire extinguishing system, lockable ventilation, siren or an exterior intercom system are available on request. For further personalization, the Vauban is available in special colors for the body and interior, with exclusive embroidery for the upholstery or with a standard holder. The inspiration for the special vehicle was the DS 7 Élysée designed for the French President.
The DS 7 Vauban was created in collaboration between the WELP Group and DS Automobiles. The basic model is manufactured at the Mulhouse plant. The conversion to the special protection vehicle is carried out by WELP France in Hérimoncourt, where the company has taken over part of a former Stellantis Group plant.
The model name Vauban is derived from the fortifications that were built at the end of the 17th century. In total, Marquis Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban supervised the construction of more than one hundred forts in Europe, which were part of towns and fortifications or independent. Twelve of the Vauban forts in ten French departments are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In Asia and Africa, several citadels and fortresses adopted the system established by Vauban. (aum)
