The BMW M5 gets electric support

BMW will present the seventh-generation M5 as a world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 11-14). The sports sedan, which will be available from November, will have electric support for the first time. The M hybrid drive consists of the 4.4-liter V8 engine with 585 hp (430 kW) and the eight-speed M-Steptronic transmission, in which an electric motor delivering 145 kW (197 hp) is integrated. This adds up to a system output of 727 hp (535 kW) and a maximum of 1000 Newton meters of torque. The plug-in hybrid can cover around 65 kilometers at up to 140 km/h purely electrically.

The BMW M5 has a rear axle that steers up to 1.5 degrees and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. The top speed, which is limited to 250 km/h, can be increased to 305 km/h with the optional M Driver's Package. A standard fuel consumption of 1.6 to 1.7 liters is specified for hybrid operation. Without electric assistance, the figure is just over ten liters. (aum)
