Fine sheet metal in Bavaria

RM Sotheby's, one of the most important Canadian-based auction houses specializing in the sale of collector cars, will be putting classic cars, sports cars and exotic vehicles under the hammer for the first time on 27 July at Tegernsee in Bavaria. The event is set to become a permanent fixture in the Sotheby's calendar alongside the regular November sale. The occasion is the first Concours of Germany at Gut Kaltenbrunn in Gmund from July 22 to 27, which will bring around 200 classic cars and icons of automotive history to Bavaria.

Undoubtedly one of the stars of the auction is the legendary Porsche 550 Spyder by Wendler from 1955, one of only 90 examples of the ultra-light racing car built. Its estimated value is between 3.5 million and 4.2 million euros. Also not to be underestimated is a 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moos. The car on offer at Tegernsee has only 45 kilometers on the odometer and is presented as good as new. The SLR 722 commemorates the victory of British racing legend Stirling Moss and his co-driver Dennis Jenkinson in 1955 at the Italian endurance classic Mille Miglia. Estimated value: 3.2 million to 3.8 million euros.

In total, RM Sotheby's wants to raise between 27 million and 34 million euros for the vehicles within just three hours on Saturday afternoon - if all bids find a successful bidder. (aum/hrr)
