Driving report Dacia Spring: A pretty electric people's car

The allusion was made in a subordinate clause, but the addressee was clear. With the Spring, Dacia is offering the "first real all-electric people's car", was the slogan at the launch of the new mini-electric vehicle. While the manufacturer with this claim in its brand name is still pondering how something like this can even be realized, the Romanian Renault subsidiary has already launched a new edition of Europe's most affordable all-electric car with its Chinese partner Dongfeng - and the threat of punitive EU tariffs is unlikely to change this.

Behind closed doors, a brand spokesperson assures that the possible 20 percent surcharge will not affect the purchase price. These currently start at 16,900 euros for the basic version Spring Electric 45 with Essential equipment and end at 19,900 euros for the more powerful top-of-the-range Electric 65 Extreme version. In between is the Expression version, which is available with both a small and large electric motor, each with a 1000 euro difference. The result is "the first and only electric car under 20,000 euros in Germany", as the press department confidently proclaims. (aum)
