Toyota C-HR: A half-strong car with good manners

With its unusual design, the C-HR plays the role of the half-strong in the Toyota model range. Under its bold exterior, the engineers have packed the fifth generation of the company's own hybrid drive system and coupled a two-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, which translates into a system output of 197 hp (145 kW).

The combination of combustion engine and electric drive works harmoniously together and achieves a pleasant power delivery. In city traffic, the C-HR becomes an electric vehicle and mostly rolls silently through the streets. The on-board computer regularly reports a proportion of more than 60 percent electric drive.

Outside the city, the electric drive is always on hand to provide support or as a soloist, without the occupants noticing the change. This has an effect on fuel consumption, which is a manageable five liters in everyday driving. The C-HR accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just under eight seconds, and further acceleration is cut off electronically at 180 km/h.

Once on the move, the C-HR shows its uncomplicated character. Occupants experience the chassis as a successful compromise between damping and suspension, and while driving the Toyota shows its acoustically restrained side, so that wind noise is only noticeable from 130 km/h upwards. The price list starts at 34,990 euros, the Team Germany variant costs 40,190 euros. (aum)
