Three Japanese manufacturers jointly develop new engines

Mazda, Toyota and Subaru have agreed to jointly develop a new generation of engines. These are to be specially tailored to electrified powertrains and the use of alternative fuels. These include synthetic fuels (e-fuels), biofuels and liquid hydrogen. The three manufacturers then want to adapt the individual drives specifically to their respective models. Last but not least, a compact design is planned. It should also offer new design possibilities, for example to improve aerodynamics. Toyota and Mazda have already been testing alternative fuels in racing for some time. (aum)
