Dispute between scooter manufacturers: patent to be released in 2025

In the patent dispute with Piaggio, Peugeot Motocycles clarified today that the ban on the sale of the Metropolis three-wheeled scooter only applies to Italy and France. Germany and other markets are not affected, as no lawsuits have been filed here.

The dispute between the two scooter manufacturers revolves around the tilting technology of the Piaggio MP3, which Peugeot is said to have largely copied. The company, which belongs to the Indian Mahindra Group, was sentenced for this by a Milan court this week and is no longer allowed to sell the three-wheeled Metropolis there. The same applies in France, where Piaggio also won its case in court.

Peugeot Motocycles must also pay a fine of over one million euros, but points out that the Italian company's patent on the front fork tilting technology will be released at the beginning of next year. The technology allows lean angles when riding despite having two front wheels. (aum)
