Vinfast VF 8 in the crash test: Top in Asia, so-so in Europe

In the Euro NCAP tests last December, Vinfast narrowly missed out on the five-star overall rating with its VF 8 e-SUV. Nevertheless, the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer was able to achieve a score of 89 percent for the protection of child occupants, a top score among all vehicles tested in the past twelve months. They have now performed better in Asia: Vinfast is the first manufacturer there to win in five out of six categories in the Asean NCAP tests.

Yahaya Bin Ahmad, Technical Director of Asean NCAP, commented on the VF 8 winning in the categories of Best Child Occupant Protection, Best Safety Assist, Best Motorcyclist Protection, Best Off-Road Vehicle and, most importantly, Best Overall Winner, saying that it was the first time the organization had awarded five wins to a single manufacturer. The VF 8 was expressly praised for its comprehensive standard safety equipment, including eleven airbags.

The Vietnamese now want to further refine their European homologation and have the VF 8 tested again this year in order to achieve a Euro NCAP rating of five stars. (aum/av)
