Ampere wants to reduce battery costs by 20 percent

Ampere, the electrical division of the Renault Group, intends to use batteries with lithium iron phosphate technology in addition to nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries in the future. In cooperation with LG and CATL, the LFP batteries are to be used primarily for small and medium-sized cars produced in Europe by Renault and Alpine. The aim is to reduce costs by around 20 percent in order to make European electric cars cheaper and more competitive. The so-called cell-to-pack technology should also contribute to this. It does away with modules and instead integrates the cells directly into the battery housing. This means that more cells can be accommodated in the same space. The first vehicles with LFP batteries are due to be launched on the market at the beginning of 2026. (aum)
